MOMENTUM MOTORSPORTS GETS NEW HOME AT CAROLINA MOTORSPORTS PARK
Taking their program to the next level, FR Americas Powered by Honda team Momentum Motorsports has moved their operation to South Carolina. Acquiring space at Carolina Motorsports Park (CMP), Phil Picard and his multi-dimensional operation will now have their location trackside in Kershaw, South Carolina.
“Having a location trackside is something that I have wanted for quite some time,” explained Phil Picard. “I explored many opportunities and options, but CMP was the clear choice when all the facts were considered. The track owners have many improvements planned for the facility, and we are happy to be on the front line of it all. Our new location gives us access to the permanent road course, skid pad as well as a kart track and club that we will utilize to increase our Karts to Cars program.”
Momentum Motorsports’ new location will be located just inside the front gate at Carolina Motorsports Park. With a new 4,800 square foot shop, the premier race team will be able to offer a host of onsite services to benefit the racer.
Picard added, “A trackside shop opens many more avenues of business for us. We will restart a major push on our Karts to Cars program and be able to offer tests most weeks. The location of CMP provides for year-round operation and a road course, kart track and skid pad can support a wide range of race programs. We have begun to move in and cannot wait to get the season started.”
“As the operators of Carolina Motorsports Park, we are delighted Momentum Motorsports has chosen CMP for their new home,” stated Michael Cummings from CMP Operating Company. “Being able to offer on-site driver development and race car prep services is a key ingredient of our vision for the facility. Doing this with a company with Momentum Motorsports’ track record of success makes us extremely excited about what the future holds for CMP.”
Carolina Motorsports Park was developed by a group of enthusiasts and racers from the Southeast. Land acquisition was completed in July 1998 with construction starting soon thereafter. The site was built on an old airport, known as “Kershaw Airport”. The track was designed by famed track designer Alan Wilson and the full 2.27-mile road course opened in July 1999. In 2010 the .7-mile kart facility began operation.
In November of 2019, operation of the facility was taken over by Motorsports Capital with a focus on providing customers an outstanding experience the entire family can enjoy. Carolina Motorsports Park is the only purpose-built road racing facility in the Carolinas and is located about an hour south of Charlotte, NC and 45 minutes outside of Columbia, SC.
